When copying text from a source document to a target document, both using the same style and character sheets, the font, instead of being Museo Sans, defaults to Minion Pro. The character style sheet on both is set to None. I've closed down InDesign, re-launched without any files open, and the default font that displays is the correct Museo Sans. This is really aggravating and wondered if anyone might have an answer.
In anticipation
Michael

Did you try to import instead of copying? If you just copy it will use your default font when pasting. You can change your default font, but it will not hold any bold, italics or different type sizes.

Thanks Jumpenjax.
The default font on both documents is Museo Sans 300 and, yes, copy/pasting not importing. Maybe I shoud try importing instead.

Copy/Paste from InDesign document to InDesign document (which is how I understand your description), should retain the styling, as long as you don't invoke the Paste Without Formatting command, intentionally or inadvertently.
Have you tried a preferences reset?

Paste without formatting – definitely check that one. Thanks John.

Tried Paste Without Formatting and it still pastes as Minion Pro. I'm beginning to wonder whether it might be corrupted preferences.

Hi Michael,
if you type in doc A using that paragraph style do you get "Museo Sans" ?
If you type in doc B using that paragraph style do you get "Museo Sans" ?
Hm. Make a sample of both docs available so that we can see into this case.
Best put them on Dropbox or a similar service and post the download links.

Thanks Laubender.
Yes Museo Sans on both source and target document. Am I sending them as InDesign docuements?

Client is expecting an urgent job right now but will send sample pages from both docs via Dropbox as soon as I'm finished.
Many thanks once again.

I should also say that I copy dragged a text box into the source doc and it came in as Minion Pro.

Hi Michael and Uwe,
I have exactly the same problem!
Please find here the documents:

Thanks!

Hi @MaryGraph , It seems like there is a corruption in the Doc-B file. A Save As doesn’t help, but If I create a new A4 document and drag the Masters and Pages over from the problem Doc-B file, the paste from Doc-A works as expected. I’ve attached the clean file—I’m working with CC2021.

Hi @rob day ,
Thank you very much for taking a look at the documents!
I would be curious to know the reason for this corruption, as we have a large amount of documents that use this template, and some have this problem. However, we always duplicate a "healthy" document.
Would you have any clue what to avoid doing, apart from changing the basic styles?
We will also see when @Michael5ED9 will have shared these documents if we have more information…

I would check both documents to see if they have matching "Basic Paragraph" Styles... separate from your other defined Styles.

FIrst thing I thought of.
Basic Paragraph Style is a trap. To avoid the trap do all three of these things:

Hi Scott and thanks.
That's interesting about Basic Paragraph Style. I tend to create my own Body text but based on [No Paragraph Style]. I'm interested in why you're so vehement and call it a trap. Strong words.

Hi @MaryGraph ,
thank you for your sample InDesign documents.
I can see your issue, but I cannot tell why that is.
Or how this can be avoided.
Must look deeper into this case.
Looks rather strange…

Hi Rob,
I have "nearly" no issues when I move pages from document B to A.
No overrides with Minion Pro. But there are overrides on paragraph and also sometimes on character level. Mainly Chinese properties.
Not so if I move pages from document A to document B.
Then I get massive character overrides with Minion Pro.
In the case where weight 700 is applied for Museo Sans I also get missing font warnings, because a Minion Pro with style 700 does not exist of course. Strange behavior, indeed.

Yes, I’m seeing the same—seems like the Doc-B file has some sort of corruption.
If I recreate document B by making a new A4 doc and moving the B Masters and pages over to the new doc, I don’t get the override and font problems on a paste from Doc-A.
Get the Doc-B-New.indd file I attached to my last post, and try copying and pasting from @MaryGraph ’s Doc-A.indd.

Hi Rob,
opened your linked InDesign document Doc-B-New.indd with InDesign 2022 and saved it to a new name.
Yes, this is basically the same when I moved the pages from B to A. Same overrides on paragraph level. With style overrides highlighter enabled:

Thanks I see the overrides in the new doc. What’s curious is if I paste some text from Doc-A the pasted text has no override with the correct formatting (I’m in CC2021 working with the IDMLs)
