Creating a large catalog in Indesign

We are looking for a program that can aid in creating a large catalog (1000's of products)

Have looked into getting a plugin for our website which creates it automatically; but i am wondering if there is a program that can create it and then download it into indesign for us to tweak it exactly how we need it.

I researched this a few years ago for a client. 

The only solution I could find was to hire a company that was able to facilitate it working to create both website content and the printed catalog.

Basically you'll need a go-between - a place where you can upload a hi-res image and the content to be displayed with the image. 

The image and content is then ported to the website - and the content is then also ported to a brochure style product. 

I wasn't able to find an already out of the box solution.

The traditional editorial / publishing system vendors also have combined their solution with a DAM and claim support for corporate publishing - Censhare, Woodwing, Vjoon etc.

Even though I haven't seen it for a while, I would especially recommend to get a demo from Comosoft with their Lago catalog product.
