I am trying to create paragraph and/or character style such that it will automatically look like this everytime I create a new line within the same paragraph textbox:

Creative Director

Jane Doe

Producer

Jack Danger

Art Director

Jane Prag

Hi @MFDSFB , Your styles’ Next Styles have to loop back to the first style. Here my Text style’s Next Style is back to AHead:

Make 2 Paragraph Styles with next style to the other style. That's the corect way.

it would be possible to make a nested style up to a forced return where a character style changes or becomes active. I cannot recommend this method.

Another way would be to use line styles where a character styles becomes active.

In case 1 you do not need a character style. In case 2 and 3 you need a character style which is automatically drawn from the single paragraph style.

Thank you for your response. This works. Is there a way to copy and paste text from another program into InDesign and it will automatically apply this style?

  1. Create a paragraph style for the names, ignoring the bold formatting for titles.
  2. Make sure you use a forced line break between titles and names (Shift + Return).
  3. Apply this style to all the names and titles.
  4. Select one title and change the font to bold.
  5. With that text selected create a new character style.
  6. Edit the names style to include the Drop Caps and Nested Styles feature as illustrated below.

Create an Object Style, where Paragraph Style and next Style is defined. Apply this to the text (as long this text is not linked to another frame).

Show us the text with hidden characters.
Remove all overrides in Bject and Paragraph styles.
don’t use Character Styles.

Why is one style not based on the other one?  If you make changes, you have always touch both of them. I recommend to make the less emphasized style as base for the other. Irecommend to make names with no language to avoid spell check there.
