Dimensions + Bleeds ...does not add up!

Hi everyone,

I have an A3 project. A3 is 42 x 29,7 cm. No margins.
Since I set Bleeds at 1,3 cm on the four sides, I reduce dimensions to 39,4 x 27,1.

That's because 42 - (1,3 x 2) = 39,4 and 29,7 - (1,3 x 2) = 27,1, right?

Now, after exporting in PDF, I expect the sheet dimensions are again 42 x 29,7, right?

Instead, strangely, Acrobat properties say Page Size is 40,877 x 28,578...

Why???

The TPS (trimmed page size) of (say) an A3 poster is 297 x 420 mm. To this you add 3mm to each edge for bleed. Margins (which are within the TPS) are your choice.

I agree with Derek.

If you do that your finished project won't be a3.

Always have your page size the exact size your require.

Then add your bleed 

Bleed is for objects that need to go to the edge of the sheet like a color or a photo.

You then extend this into the bleed areas.

This then means when it's trimmed there are no gaps.

Text or other objects that do not go near edge of page should remain within a safe text area usually 5mm margin or more inset on the sheet.
