I'd like to download the CS6 version of InDesign so I can open some old PageMaker files, but not on the same computer where I have my CC apps installed. Is this possible? Thanks.

Your copy of Creative Cloud (or InDesign CC) can be installed on two computers. On the second computer, use the Creative Cloud desktop app to install CS6. Click at the far right of the InDesign name and from the menu choose Other Versions, then choose CS 6.

Hi Brad, I was hoping you might be able to help me...

I recently purchased an iMac that runs Sierra 10.12.6 and didn't realize I couldn't upgrade to a newer version! Adobe sent me a link to download CS6, but of course it doesnt work because I guess it's been discontinued? Is there a way to upgrade my OS somehow or somewhere where I can get Illustrator CS6 & Photoshop?

Thanks so much for your time!

There is no reputable source for CS6 applications. It's highly unlikely they will run on modern Mac operating systems.

I think ProDesignTools counts as reputable.

However, your second point about running on current Mac OS is correct.

Sorry, David, I hadn't heard the Pro Design Tools site mentioned for a couple years, and never had to use them. I didn't really the site was still up for downloads.

Sierra should work. I've had CS6 on El Capitan, Sierra, High Sierra and Mojave with no issues.

What do you mean, the link doesn't work? The downloads from prodesign tools for the CS6 suites are still active (just checked) and are legit from Adobe and should work to install, but since these were the pre-CC versions, you will need to do some extra finagling to have it activate under CC using the offline activation routine. I forget offhand what the procedure is but it can be done.

Thanks for the help! Just downloaded CS6 from Protools but keep getting the following error. Tried to uninstall and reinstall CC desktop app but still, no go. You mentioned an offline activation procedure?

I suspect the CS6 installer will only work if you have a license number since Adobe stopped offering it as part of a CC subscription.

And this serial doesn't need to have activation (TLP licensing).

I was able to install CS6 as part of my CC subscription. It showed up in the CC app and worked properly.  However, I started my CC subscription with CS6, so I don't know if it would work if someone started with a newer version, say CC 2015. Your mileage may vary.

(This was on Windows, it won't work on the newest Mac OS versions.)

Thanks so much for the info! The highest OS version I can run on my computer is Sierra. My CC subscription (2022) isn't compatible with my operating system. I downloaded CS6 because it's compatible with Sierra, but it still won't install. I think my CC desktop app is the problem. I'm going to uninstall CC app and then try to install CS6. Maybe it will work?

Thanks!

Doubtful that you're going to get this to work. That computer is way too old if you can't go past Sierra.

It's time to move on.

How old is that thing that you can't upgrade the O/S beyond 10.12?

Thanks for your reply! I, too, have a currently uninstalled copy of PM, either 6.5 or 7.0, for windows. Would there be any advantage that you know of to installing it (on XP OS or later) to facilitate transformation of PM files to ID?

Maybe! Back in the "old days", Pagemaker normally saved files in a quick format (simply doing a "Save") that would just "tack on" any changes you've done in the files as you worked on it. Consequently the file would get larger and larger. When you did a "Save As", the file would be competely resaved and compacted, making it less prone to corruption. I had some success converting troublesome PM files to ID by doing this since I had PM still around on a machine.

The other big help to having PM around is to correct any link issues before you convert, particularly OLE objects (if you were working on a PC).

Hi Steve,

best find someone who has InDesign CS6 ( perpetual version! ) or a version below installed and would do the conversion for you. The policy of available versions of apps in Creative Cloud has changed. More on this here:

Ask Russian community here - https://forum.rudtp.ru/threads/zaprosy-na-ponizhenie-versii-indesign-indd-to-idml-indd-to-inx.44870/ - there are many guys with perpetual CS6 who's can help you with it.
