Edit original shortcut prompt "Read the composite data instead"

Jan 25, 2024 Jan 25, 2024

Hello,

If I select an image in InDesign and click the "Edit Original" in the Links panel, it open normally the image in Photoshop.

But if I use the keyboard shortcut for "Edit Original" (alt+mj+cmd+L), then I received this message in Photoshop "Read the composite data instead?". If I click ok, then it flatten the file before opening it.

Why this function is different when I use the shortcut ?

Thanks for your lights !

Maybe this helps understand your issue:

It appears that the Opt-Shift combination in your shortcut alters the way Photoshop opens the image.

When you go to the Links Panel and look at Edit Original - does it show the Keyboard shortcut beside it? If not, then there is no keyboard shortcut applied and you're using a different shortcut to invoke a different command.

For what it's worth  you can hold down CMD or ALT and double click an image to edit original.

Quicker, I think.

Perhaps your keyboard shortcut is linked to a script or something.

Thanks for your answer.

There is a a keyboard shortcut for "Edit Original" in the "Edit" menu. And it's working. But any TIFF or PSD I open in Photoshop prompt the request ""Read the composite data instead?". If I click ok, then it flatten the layers, if I click escape on keyboard, it open the document normally.

The joke is that, when I click on it in the "Edit" menu (not the Links palette), it's working normally !

Not a big deal, but still very strange. Am I calling another function ? Are my images altered in other way when using this shortcut?
