Our picture library was reorganized and all links in our catalogue needed to be updated. When we edit the links and choose the new path for te picture, InDesign suddenly closes. Only solution we found was to erase existing picture and import a new one, because even if we try to replace the picture the program closes.
Can anyone help? Reimporting all pictures is extremely time consuming...
Thanks!

If this is just a path change for the images, one method that has been suggested is to export the file to .idml
The .idml file is really a .zip archive, so you can rename it to .zip and open the archive. Find the DesignMap.xml file and open it in a text editor, then use Find/Change to correct the paths. Change the extension back to .idml, open in InDesign and you should be good to go.

IDML is a good way and approach and can remove erroneous data build up too.
If the IDML method doesn't work.
After you do the IDML and reopen that:
A good way to relink images is to use the Links Panel - sub menu (three lines top right of Links Panel) - and in this list is a 'relink to folder'.
So first you select all the images in the links panel - then you choose the Relink to Folder
Then point to the folder only and it should update all the links.
Unfortunately, all images must be in the same folder for it to work.
So you many need to go through different folders to find all the images.
There's also a thread about a script here to look through subfolders for links
@Kasyan Servetsky might be able to help.
