In InDesign, I imported a word document containing endnotes. The links between the reference numbers and the endnote texts don't work. What did I do wrong?

Did you perhaps import the endnotes as static endnotes?

Check the import options for Word files.

Or does linking do not work "only" with an exported PDF?

Thanks for your reply. No, I did not import the endnotes as static endnotes, and no, PDFs are not concerned here.

Best,

Hi Strabon,

you did nothing wrong, if you checked your import settings and the option for Endnotes was selected.

I assume here that you are using InDesign 2021 and a docx document from Microsoft Word.

Hm. Look into the Word document with Microsoft Word.

Perhaps the docx file was saved with a different application, not Microsoft Word ?

Or were the endnotes done with a special Word extension?

If the endnotes are "live" from a Microsoft Word perspective, save the file to a new name and try the import to InDesign again.

Oh, and could you post a small sample of the docx file and the InDesign document so that we could test if there is a bug with InDesign's import options? Best put it on Dropbox or a similar service and post the download link.

Thanks,
