I'm painfully aware that this issue is going to be a monster to describe and was impossible to get a screen grab of (at least for me).
First, I'm using the most current version of InDesign, 18.5, on a Mac, Studio M1 Max with Apple Display Monitor running Sonoma 14.1. Been using InDesign since it came out. The ONLY thing that's different in my setup is I upgraded to the Kensington SlimBlade Wireless trackball, I've had the wired one since SlimBlade came out and finally splurged on the wireless. Wouldn't you know it, there is a blip in the Kensington Works Software, so I uninstalled the latest version and went back one version and fixed that issue.
Now, every time I touch an image, a block of text, or anything in InDesign to move it, the entire InDesign window flickers or blinks. Once, just once, but if I'm dragging it around a bit, it continues to flicker with each move. Only the elements flicker, not the workspace or any of the tools, etc.
My brain is trying to force this to be connected to the trackball, but that is a leap. I work in InDesign almost every day and this has me at a standstill. Ideas anyone??? Yep, I have shut everything down 3x, double-checked for updates, all the usual stuff.
It is like my own strobe light show. While I'm luckily not seizure-prone, I do have some vision blips that are aggravated by this. Not to mention, a headbanger headache!
Help, sympathy, and ideas are all accepted!
Kathy
InDesign is not (yet) supported on Sonoma. Some users have reported that hiding rulers solved the problem.

Turning off rulers worked!!! Thank you so very much for your immediate reply! I'm laughing at myself as I was making sure I had double-checked everything...except Sonoma. I had touched base with Kensington Support, and they didn't mention that. Told me it was a bug and to wait on it to be fixed. Again, thank you, you made my day!

In general, I'll wait at least two months (often more) before I update to the newest macOS version because of problems like that. I'd wait for at least a couple InDesign updates and watch messages on this forum for what others are experiencing.

You'd think I would have learned that by now. I start seeing all the alerts on the fabulous, bright, shiny new features that are on the update and then I click. Thank you for the reminder on slowing my "Now, Now, Now."

As I mentioned in another topic: afetr every major OS update I do perform a clean install.
So far I have experienced no issues with grids, guidelines, rules, flashes, etc. GPU performance is turned on as well.
For reference: M1 with Apple Studio Display running at 3200 x 1800 px.

GPU Performance does seem to help many users but a clean install is one way to eliminate a lot of issues.

Thank you for adding your experience. In all honesty, I never thought about a clean install. I was proud of myself for doing clean installs on everything when I get a new system. 99% of my issues in life have been from being impulsive...Again, thank you for your time. I am turning GPU Performance back on, after reading somewhere to turn it off!

When you say clean install, do you mean of the OS? Also, on your Studio Display do you use a Preset, if so which one? Thank you for adding to this discussion. It is appreciated.
