Export reflowable epub sends TOC to end of book

Hi,

I'm an InDesign newbie. I'm trying to export to reflowable epub, but it moves the TOC to the end of the book instead of leaving it between the Copyright page and Chapter 1. Any fixes? It's for Amazon Kindle KDP.

Most solutions suggest you cut the generated TOC and paste it into the text flow. This is unnecessarily complicated and messy. There's a much more sophisticated and "integral" way to do it, recommended even for print layouts where you don't need everything to be part of one text flow

1. Delete any TOC frame you have. Generate a new TOC. Paste the new frame in the margin of the page where you want it to start and drag it out to just a few inches square.
2. Now drag that text box's anchor to the end of the paragraph you want it to follow. (Typically something like your copyright information or the end of a Foreword.)
3. Set the Anchored Item characterstics to center anchor, no offsets, and click "Jump object" in the layout header (to make all text flow around it, top and bottom).
4. Drag the TOC frame to fill the first page. If necessary, continue the flow on successive pages.

It gets a little tricky to get the TOC frame to flow within your main text flow, but it's much the same as doing so for any print layout, along with getting the anchored object settings right as well. And you never have to cut-and-paste another TOC update; all updates will work right with the live layout.
