In the past--perhaps up to a year ago?--InDesign would remember the file type of your previous export and by default do the next one the same way. That's not true anymore: Export seems to randomly choose export as jpg or Print PDF. (I only use pdf print, never jpg.)
Is there a seting for this? A way to set the default for exporting to pdf print?
Thanks
Jim
Hi @JimAustin,
Thanks for reaching out. As Mike suggested, I tested this on InDesign 20.1 (Windows and macOS both), and it remembers my last export method. Could you confirm if this happens with all documents or just a specific one? Please try with a new file and share the results.
I recommend resetting preferences to see if that helps (be sure to create a backup of it first). You can follow the steps here: https://adobe.ly/3EyPEUE.
Looking forward to your response.

Actually, it still tends to work that way on my systems: both Windows and macOS.

Well that's annoying. It works for you and not for me? Well, that at least suggests that there's a setting for it somewhere. Maybe.
I'm on a Mac.

Thank you for this reply. This has been happening for months, with many dozens of different files. However, all the files come from the same source, our Art Director, from the same set of template files.

Got a follow-up reminder this morning, thought I'd come back and mark this as the correct answer. Resetting preferences fixed the problem. So, thanks.

Since it is macOS, go explore in this troubleshooting compendium.
Especially note the part about "macOS and full disk access". If that is not it, maybe a thorough reset of prefs would make it behave better.

Thank you Mike. Unfortunately, the instructions for "Full Disc Access" no longer apply to my current version of mac OS.

Why is that?

Seems like I can't edit posts here, so I'd just like to add that this previous message from me is wrong. I simply wasn't finding the correct setting.--Jim

I reset preferences,. Since this was basically a random thing, I can't be sure yet that the problem is solved, but so far, so good.
