We work with Footnotes and endnotes. And when everything is OK, after going in print, the text is exported so that the autor can edit it for a next release (Text ist law and commented law so it changes often). I was very hapy when InDesig did begin to work with endnotes but ... it does not export them. Not even in Version 15.0.1. Footnotes are exported, endnotes are missing. This is a big bug or an even bigger oversight.
Doc and RTF are not suitable for roundtripping. If you can not use InCopy but still want a Doc(x) roundtrip take a look at Wordsflow:

Exported as what? RTF? Tagged Text? ASCII text? For your needs you need InCopy, a simple 'export' will not cut it...

Sorry! RTF, so it keeps Word formating (bold, italic, etc). And we can not use InCopy for that, the text is not edited in the company, but by many law firms, an so on. So we need DOC or RTF.

Second vote for Wordsflow! Much easier for authors to stay in Word.
InCopy may be more useful for some work, but requires more knowledge/training to work properly.

Yes, it may be a workaround but
So, Adobe, when you implement something – and I realy like the fact that we have also endnotes, please do it as it has to be.
And yes, as belove mentioned, it is much easier for authors to work in Word..

What's not normal? There are specific tools for specific jobs. Round-tripping Word is not an advisable workflow without using Wordsflow.

Sorry but ... with all due respect, I can not agree with you on that. It is normal to be able to export a Word file with footnotes but not normal to export with endnotes? There may be better ways to do that, I am sure of that, but a simple task as an export should also be possible.

You can not, and never could, export to Word (DOC, DOCX). Only to RTF, Tagged Text or plain text.
RTF is not a Microsoft Word format, although Word can open RTF.
Use Wordsflow. It is what you need. It does the job.

With all due respect to you. You came here looking for help. You've been given the same advice over and over and refuse to consider it. So, why even ask?

Hi Frans,
All are waiting for the update feature on the Endnotes round-tripped options.
Most of the time we received the files from client in both format of the footnotes and endnotes so footnotes no issues while exporting the RTF file and import into InDesign.
But the Endnotes there is issue while export the RTF the end note text comes out the normal text there is no linking withe citations. And the client requirement the end notes should the be linked into the RTF.
Is there any udpates done in the Adobe InDesign 2024 version. Or yet to develop this request from Adobe end.
Also please suggest anyother options to get rid this request.
Export the InDesign to RTF the endnotes should be linked in RTF file, while click the endnotes citaion it is go the refecence text in the MS word.
Note: I'm using Javascript to Expor the InDesign to RTF. Round trip RTF to InDesign again.
Please anyone suggest your valuable ideas or tricks.
Thanks,
Sundar

Hi Bob,
Any other alternate options to achieve this request.
I plan the Endnotes to convert Footnotes using javascript from the InDesign and Export to RTF.
After that, in MS word the Footnote should be convert to Endnote it is possible to trigger in the InDesign javascript itself. Using the bridge talk or any other apple script or any options.
Please share any ideas or ticks.
Regards,
Sundar

Wordsflow and Docsflow as mentioned years ago. You can look into InCopy as well.
As far as scripting I have no clue. You'd do far better starting a new discussion and if you think it would help adding a link to this one for reference.

Hi Frans,
You got the solution using the WordsFlow plugin for the Endnotes Round-tripped WOW superb!
But I'm trying the possibilities on the javascript to meet the Endnotes Roun-tripped. Still I didn't get any ideas.

For the life of me, I don't understand why you want to re-invent the wheel, but good luck.
