Hi, I am exported a 450 page document, to make a PDF file. The export failed, and this message appeared in the failure box

"Version 4 ICC Profiles were converted to version 2 ICC Profiles during PDF Export.Failed to Export the PDF file."

Can anyone help with this please?

Here is a link to the actual failure alert

This was the advice from another member:

Try removing any document corruption by saving it as an IDML document, renaming it and reopening it and exporting as a PDF/X-4.

This worked.

Hi there,

Sorry to hear about the trouble you are facing. I would suggest you try one of the following steps:

  1.  Export to IDML. Open the IDML file, relink everything and try exporting to PDF.
  2.  Duplicate the document. Delete half-page and try exporting to PDF. Do this process until you narrow it down to the culprit page.

Note: If your file or links are stored on a network or USB, copy/ download them locally and then try exporting to PDF.

Let us know how it goes.

Thanks & Regards,

Anshul Saini

Hi juliannz,

could be that one or a couple of your placed images are tagged with an ICC version 4 profile.

Below a link to a discussion in German where the usual suspect was the eciRGB_v2_ICCv4.icc profile that was used on a placed image file. The discussion already started in 2011 and continued recently:

ICC-Profile der Version 4 wurden beim PDF-Export in ICC-Profile der Version 2 konvertiert.

One suggestion was to tag affected images with the version 2 ICC profile eciRGB_v2.icc.

If a conversion from version 4 to version 2 that InDesign is doing while writing the PDF is your core issue with the PDF export is still unclear.

It would be preferable if no conversion would take place during PDF Export.

That's the suggestion I take from this post by Thomas Richard in the thread I linked to above:

ICC-Profile der Version 4 wurden beim PDF-Export in ICC-Profile der Version 2 konvertiert.
