I just started using in design for school. In class we use mac at home i use windows. When i transfer and open the document (from windows to mac and mac to windows) all of my fonts go missing. they dont show up in adobe fonts and i dont get the option to download missing fonts either. i just dont know what im doing wrong i tried turning fonts off and on with no results. i cant keep reformatting my work based on what computer im using all year.

  1. Are you using Adobe fonts or fonts you have found elsewhere?
  2. And what version of InDesign are you using?
  3. What error message do you get when you open the files? Can you share a screen shot?

Current versions of InDesign offer the option to auto-activate Adobe fonts in Prefs—this should take care of it if you are using Adobe fonts. If you are using fonts found elsewhere, you will need to review the licensing information before copying them/installing them on your other computer.

It's also possible you are using Mac system fonts, at least some of which are not compatible with PC.

If you are going to be working cross-platform you must use either OpenType fonts (all Adobe fonts are now supplied as OpenType) or Windows flavored TrueType fonts (most TT fonts today are delivered in Windows format only, but that was not always the case). Mac flavored TrueType is not usable on PC, nor is Mac Type1, but T1 fonts are no longer supported in current versions of InDesign, so that's not likely to be the issue.

What fonts? What format? How are you transferring these documents? Are you signed in to Creative Cloud using the same Adobe ID? A screenshot of the missing fonts dialog would be helpful.
