I am working on a tutorial InDesign document. There are fonts showing up in the document that do not show up in FontBook. The surprising thing is the fonts in the document do not show up as missing which is what I would expect. They appear as if they are installed and linked up to the document.

Any idea why this would be?

You have this tagged for EPUB. Is the font issue in the InDesign layout/app, when exported to PDF or printed, or in an EPUB export?

This is in the InDesign layout/app. It is being made to be exported as an ePub, thus the designation. But the problem is back in the InDesign document before it is exported.

Presumably it's a Reflowable ePub (not a FXL ePub), it may be using system fonts.

ID would use whatever fonts were designated; the export/reader would substitute from there. This sounds like a font installation/mapping issue at the OS/app level.

FWIW, it's very difficult to get fonts through to EPUB with any consistency. Best to work to simple serif/sans-serif styling and leave it at that.

It is intended for a Fixed Layout ePub.

That changes a few things, but you still shouldn't be seeing "rogue" fonts in ID.

And unless you're doing basically picture-book pages, I'd recommend against doing FXL (any more). You want pages? Use PDF. You want EPUB? Go with the greater flexibility and options of reflowable. FXL, to me, combines the limitations of both. 🙂
