Footenotes in PDF UA

Hi all,

some help/advice needed. I am making magazines that have footnote or endnotes and I must generate accesible PDFs (PDF/UA) for them. I export the PDF from InDesign with PDF interactive (which changes the CMYK colors in RGB) or with PDF for print (which does not change the colors, with the options for Bookmarks and Hyperlinks enabled). I tagged (for PDF) all the the paragraph styles (same problem no matter how I do make the export). The footnotes are tagged as "P" in InDesign (I tried also "Automatic").

If I check the PDF in Acobat DC for the reading order the footnotes are at the base of the text column. There is no link between the footenote number up in text (the reference) and the footnote text. Is that correct so? Should the screenreader not read the footnote text when it finds the reference in text and then continue with the text?

If I check the PDF with PAC 2021 I receive a warning "Structure Tree" and in "Results in Detail" for the footenotes a have a warning "Possibly inappropriate use of a "P" structure element".

Also there is no link (like for htperlinks, to click on it) between the the reference and the footnote.

Am I doing something wrong. Shoul I do something else also?

Thak you for helping,

Sincerely yours,

Dan

Let the footnotes style be automatic. InDesign will yield hyperlinks for endnotes and the footnote will end up within the readable paragraph.
