Gradient Radial Feather on a line

I'm having difficulty making a radial gradient feather on a line. Making a radial on a line does nothing if the line is upright, although it does if the line is slanted.

This two lines both have the same settings

I figured out how to do it, I have to first draw the line horizontally and then move it vertically
