Hidden Characters are italicised

My Hidden Characters are italicised. Does anyone know how to un-italise them? I've recently updated to 17.2. Has anyone else updated and had this happen? I'd love to be able to make them regular again.

Hi Lynn,

could you share a screenshot so we can have a look?

Please use the "Insert Photos" button of the tools in the forum editor.

Mine is coming and going. Sometimes they are, sometimes not. Since updating to 17.2. It's weird...

Restarting Indesign fixes it, but it comes back.

Have you tried changing the font? Make sure you select all. Even a little space can cause a problem.

I had that happen today for the first time. Version 17.2 on Windows 11.

Also another strange thing that happened.

Had a small paragraph of text with a manual override. Selected the entire paragraph and removed the override, but the hidden paragraph marker wouldn't clear, still had the override.

Applied a new paragraph style and the override was still there on the paragraph return.

Checked and there wasn't a character style stuck there, either.

I never did get that paragraph resolved and just gave up.

Since only the hidden paragraph marker wouldn't clear of the override, I'm wondering if the italics is related.

17.2 is truly becoming the wierdest release of InDesign ever. It's haunted. Never know what quirk will pop up tomorrow!

Thanks for letting me know.

Did you restart your machine?

Then it could be something with a cache file perhaps.

I did shutdown my machine at the end of the day, but today they are italicised again!

We're seeing a lot quirks about 17.2 being reported in the Forums.

Try rolling your InDesign back to version 17.1.

That has cleared up the missing fonts and strange formatting on my systems.

Thanks Bevi. I did consider reverting back, but i've learnt to live with the italicised hidden characters now. I've not noticed any other quirkiness from 17.2 but will certainly revert to 17.1 if I had lots of issues with 17.2.
