Horizontal scroll bar missing Indesign 2025

This is it. I am scrapping my subscriptions to all Adobe products very soon. As soon as I find any alternative to Adobe's garbage software.

Why would you hide the horizontal scroll bar in Indesign 2025? What madness would compel Adobe to be so hateful toward its customers?

I have given up on Indesign, it's awful. Can anyone help me find the scroll bar so I can complete this week's tasks and start the search for alternative software?

I did the reset suggested and closed it down and reopened it. The scroll bar now appears when I zoom in or out where it did not before.

Thank you all for your help.

Hi @Stuart_McCorquodale1454,

Sorry about this! I tested this on my setup, and the horizontal scroll bar works fine.
Would you mind confirming the details below?

1. Are you referring to the horizontal scroll bar at the bottom or another specific area?

2. Your InDesign 2025 version (20.0 or 20.0.1)?

3. The operating system you’re using?

4. Can you share a screen recording demonstrating the issue?

We look forward to the details you share!

Best,
Abhishek

I think that it is because the zoom level you use at this moment shows everything you need to see (spread and pasteboard), so horizontal scroll bar (at this moment) is not useful. I am quite sure that if you zoom in, it will appear.

No, it does not.

I have to highlight an item on a page and zoom in. To see the other side, I then do the same.

That's weird. On my Mac, it appears as soon I zoom in. Try to reset preferences. In the 2024 and 2025 version, you have a button in the preferences (general, then at the bottom).

Windows. I tried resetting the preferences and still no scroll bar. This 2025 update is a joke. Adobe needs to stop these user hating updates. I will finish my work in an earlier version.

Hi @Stuart_McCorquodale1454,

Thanks! The provided details are helpful.
I’ve attached a screen recording that demonstrates what @jmlevy mentioned-zooming in should trigger the appearance of the horizontal scroll bar. In the video, I am pressing Ctrl + to zoom in on the InDesign window content and Ctrl - to zoom out. As I do this, the scroll bar appears at the bottom when zoomed in and disappears when zoomed out.
Please try following these steps and let us know if you see the same results. If possible, could you also record your screen like I did so we can confirm the steps you follow and for our better understanding?

Looking forward to your update!

Best,
Abhishek
