Hey all, starting to pull my hair out with this one! Every so often when InDesign opens on my Mac the application bar is off the top of the screen somewhere, so I'm unable to move, resize, or full-screen the application.
This happens pretty regularly to me, and I can't seem to find a solution other than a hard reset and praying that the top bar is accessible the next time the application opens. Force quitting and reopening the application doesn't work.
I tried making a post in the adobe wish form but the form appears to be down/not functioning correctly: https://www.adobe.com/products/wishform.html

I understand how frustrating it can be to deal with this recurring issue. Could you please let me know the version of InDesign you're using and the details of your macOS? Also, has this issue been happening since you first installed InDesign, or did it start more recently? Are you experiencing similar problems with other Adobe Creative Cloud apps?
In the meantime, please try resetting your preference of the application:
Press "Option" + "Shift" + "Command" + "Control" while opening InDesign to reset preferences. Reference: Set preferences in Adobe InDesign
Also, could you share a screen recording showing what happens when you double-click the InDesign app? This will help us investigate further.
Thanks,
Abhishek Rao

Abishek,
Thanks for your help! I'm using Indesign v 19.5, on MacOS v 14.6.1 which are both locked down by the company IT department and cannot be modified.
This issue has been happening persistently with InDesign since I started using it on Mac, for about 2 years now. Prior to this point I exclusively used it on Windows.
I tried resetting my preferences but that was unsuccessful. Here is a screen recording of what happens when I open the application: https://vimeo.com/1018059188/2051f602c3
Thanks!
Isaac

Thank you for providing the details and the screen recording! I appreciate your patience.
Since the issue has persisted for two years and you've already tried resetting your preferences, I recommend checking if there are any security settings or restrictions applied by your company’s IT department that could be affecting InDesign's performance.
Additionally, could you please share the following information to help us further diagnose the issue?
1. Have you experienced similar behavior with any other Adobe applications on your Mac, or is it isolated to InDesign?
2. Are there any specific error messages that appear when InDesign fails to launch properly?
3. Is there a difference in behavior when launching InDesign with a different user account on your Mac, if possible?
Your feedback will help us in troubleshooting this issue more effectively. Thank you for your cooperation!
Best,
Abhishek Rao

Hi Abishek,
Thanks for the response. A quick search also reveals many other users with the same issue, so I'm highly doubtful that security settings are affecting Indesign's performance. To answer your other questions:
1. This behavior doesn't occur with other Adobe applications (the ones I use the most are Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere, After Effects, and Media Encoder).
2. The application doesn't produce any error messages, but I'm assuming that is because the application itself is working just fine.
3. I don't have the ability to launch InDesign from a different user account since this is a machine for work and all other user account access is locked down.

I’m sorry to hear that you’re experiencing the same frustrating issue with InDesign. I completely understand how annoying it can be when the application doesn’t behave as expected.
Could you please let us know if you’re using multiple monitors? Sometimes, applications can open off-screen in multi-monitor setups. If you are using multiple displays, try moving InDesign to another monitor or selecting a different workspace from the 'Window > Workspace' menu.
Your feedback is important, and we want to help resolve this for you as quickly as possible!
Thank you for your patience,
Abhishek Rao
