How to make interactive pdf printable

Community Beginner ,
Aug 28, 2023 Aug 28, 2023

Hey!
In addition to the accessible interactive pdf (contains maaaaaany links), my client wants a printable version with links to the interactive pdf. How does cmyk color management work in the same document?

Until now, I have always made two different files, the accessible online version and the printable one.

Could you please advise, is it possible? Or do we have to accept that when printing the rgb version, the colors can be whatever (and it hurts).  Are there any new tricks for that?

Thanks in advance to all the gurus in this community 🙏🏻.

Hi together,

even with Adobe PDF (Print) it is possible to export PDFs with working hyperlinks. There is a checkbox for hyperlinks!

You can print a PDF but obviously, the lhyperinks won't work. The fidelity of the colour will depend on the type of desktop printer the end user has.

You might consider as an alternative, test using InDesign's Publish Online facility – you can include lots of interactivity that's not available in a PDF and the user can print a (static) PDF version of the document.

Thank you, your kind answer.
I understand there is different kinds of printers, but it would be nice to control colors some way. I guess I think about this a bit old-fashioned, but when you take money for what you do, you have to be careful about the quality.

Nothing's changed and for the most part in-house printing, RGB is the right choice anyway. If you're sending files out for offset printing then you have to send two files...one for printing, and one for interactive use.
