How to Revert InDesign to Version 18.5 After Automatic Update to Version 20

New Here ,
Oct 29, 2024 Oct 29, 2024

Dear all,

Due to issues with one of our employees' computers, Creative Cloud automatically updated the InDesign program from version 18.5 to the latest version 20. Reverting to the previous version through Creative Cloud is not possible (only version 19 is available).

Is there a way to reinstall version 18.5? This is important to us as everyone in the office is working on this version, and for certain reasons, we hadn’t planned on updating to a newer version.

Thank you in advance fot the informations.

Hi @BOEFR,

I understand the importance of keeping everyone on the same version. Here’s how you can reinstall InDesign version 18.5:

1. Open the Creative Cloud desktop app.
2. Go to Apps and find InDesign.
3. Click on the three dots next to InDesign and choose Other versions.
4. From the list, select version 18.5 and click Install.

Additionally, to prevent automatic updates in the future, you can turn off Automatic Updates:
1. In the Creative Cloud app, go to Preferences.
2. Under Apps, turn off 'Auto-update for InDesign.

Let me know if this helps or if you need further assistance!

Thanks,

Abhishek Rao

@Abhishek Rao

Has Adobe changed their policy about only ONE previous major version being available?

Hi @Robert at ID-Tasker,

Adobe’s policy currently supports only the latest version and one prior major version of Creative Cloud apps. This is why versions 19 and 20 are available in the Creative Cloud app, as outlined in Adobe’s support policy [here](https://adobe.ly/3YnRYUQ).

If a user needs access to version 18.5, Adobe Customer Support can assist directly. You can reach out to them [here](https://adobe.ly/40i6ccx) for further help.

Let me know if there’s anything else I can assist with!

Thanks,
Abhishek Rao

@Abhishek Rao

But you've replied like 18.5 is still available from the "three dots"?

Why would you tell a customer to do something that is simply not possible? The only versions available are 20 and 19.

Hi @Robert at ID-Tasker and @BobLevine,

I apologize for the confusion in my previous message. I checked my Creative Cloud, and I could see version 18.5 available because I have it installed for testing purposes. This may not reflect the availability for all users.

As per Adobe’s policy, only the latest version and one previous major version are typically available. For users who require access to version 18.5 specifically, I recommend contacting Adobe Customer Support directly, as they may be able to assist further.

Thank you for your understanding and correcting me out.

Best,
Abhishek Rao
