How to update a calendar that has one week on each page?

Community Beginner ,

I have a calendar of 2023 that is one week per page, with every day except sunday having its own text box. I would like to update it to 2024. By this I mean subtracting 1 or 2 (because leap year) from the date digits. Is there a way to do this?

  • Calendar Wizard does not seem well-suited for calendars that are split between multiple pages
  • It's often suggested that you make a calendar for each possible option. If there's no other solution then I will probably try this.
  • I'm open to working with scripts.

Any and all help is appreciated! Please feel free to ask clarifying questions.

What do you mean by "By this I mean subtracting 1 or 2 (because leap year) from the date digits."

Do you mean you've "static" / separate TextFrames for each day?? They are not linked / threaded??

Can you show an example of how it looks like right now? In Screen Mode -> Normal:

and:

then select all objects on the page / spread so edges of the objects are visible.

Can you share your whole document - or part of it? You can upload it somewhere and send me a link on priv.

The days of the week are on different dates. For example, the monday of the first week is

  • January 2nd in 2023
  • ...but January 1st in 2024

Due to the leap day of February 29th, the friday of week 9 is

  • March 3rd in 2023
  • ...but March 1st in 2024

In other words, I am looking for a way to automatically subtract 1 from each date in January and February, and 2 from each date in the other months. Of course, this does not work for every date but I think it would save me a lot of work.

The text frames are not threaded. Attached is a screenshot of one of the pages (with censor). My employers do not want me to share (parts of) the document.

That's what I was affraid of...

Poorly generated document...

Can you share your document? On priv.

I can run it through my tool and quickly and easily "fix" it - thread all those TFs as a single Story - so you could quickly and easily make it more "universal" - for 2024 and following years.

I cannot. My employers do not want me to share it.

How would turning the separate text frames into a single story help me with my specific issue?

Right now you've bunch of unrelated TFs - 365+ - if they were linked as a Story - you could just paste a new contents to the whole month at once - so 12x updates instead of 365+...

And with special Excel file - you could include extra info for each day - names, Holidays, etc. - and then generate InDesign Tagged Text with everything pre-styled - weekdays, names, holidays, Sundays in red - even extra icons - but icons would have to be as special tags and replaced after import - unless you would used glyphs from dedicated font.

So once set up correctly - doing following years would only require updating extra info - holidays - and reimporting 12x months.
