I can't edit paste Ai file in InDesign

I'm now used to Illustrator and I'd like to create an interractive document. I hadn't heard of InDesign before doing some research and turns out I also have access to it. My goal is to copy and paste an Ai document in Id in order to add connectivity. I've watched several tutorials explaining that copying and pasting allows me to edit the ancor points and more generally the objects inside Id. However it doesn't work. I just have a rectangle with I believe a preview of my illustration, not editable, with on top of that some kind of Mask rectangle I need to extend in order to see the entire illustration. It's very confusing and frustrating so any answer is welcome. Thanks.

Hi SedaSE27,

depending on the complexity of your Illustrator artwork copy/paste will work or it will not.

The less complex the less more* likely it will work.
