I've had this issue before and it is back - It is so annoying.

I've tried closing both indesign and Acrobat - same issue again and again. My Only option is renaming the file. Meaning myworkflow file name structure is effected.

Surely there must be a fix by now for this ?

indesign 19.5.

What platform, OS version, where do you save your files - local / server / cloud / external drive / etc?

Have you tried if you can overwrite when saved locally?

Bingo.

Something is "keeping lock / hold" on your files.

If I would guess - some versioning functionality?

This will happen to me saving to external server (not cloud - Mac OS Sequoia). Sometimes, it's because the file is selected on the server and showing a preview (which makes the server or app think it's in use). Sometimes I think is software running on the server that is locking it. One workaround that doesn't involve renaming is to create a directory with where you're saving the PDFs called "OLD" and move it there. That way you can save the updated file and after a time period, the other file will become deleteable.
