InDesign is extremely powerful professional software with a steep learning curve; it's great once you get to know it. 

If you list the specific problems you are having, the users here will be happy to try to help you solve them.

Maybe it is not the software but your knowlegde and abilities that are... a bit lacking? Any way that we or any book etc. may help?

My question since all your problems seem to relate to upgrades: why on earth do you upgrade?
