Image blurry after placing in InDesgin

Hello, hoping someone can please help me resolve this issue...

I am placing a jpg image into InDesign but it is appearing blurry once placed. It isn't the Display Performance–this is set to high quality in both View and my InDesign preferences. The exported .jpg file appears perfect in preview, however it loses quality/resolution once placed in InDesign.

The original file is coming from Layout, but I don't think the export settings are the issue, as the preview appears fine outside of InDesign (I have also tried exporting as different file types, resolutions, dimensions, but no change). Any ideas?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Can you show a screen capture of the image? Also look in the Links panel and expand it so it shows detail about the image. What is the native resolution of the image and what is its effective resolution?

Also, always provide information about OS and versions. What OS are you using? What version of the OS? What version of InDesign are you using?

Hi Scott, thanks for your reply.

Mac is macOS Catalina Version 10.15.7.

InDesign version 17.3 (2022)

Images attached of the exported jpg and the file once placed with Links panel info. Both resolutions are low but I am unsure why this is changing as I am exporting at 300dpi.

Check how it looks viewing the image at 100%

Also check the Links panel to see if everything appears in order and that the Effective PPI is around 300PPI (for printing)

Check to be sure your art is not 72ppi it should be a 300ppi.

Carah - the resolution of an image in InDesign will depend on the size (dimensions) you Place it at in the document, (and it will probably vary from image to image). So with the image you showed as a screen shot in the Links panel, was originally 35PPI, but you reduced the size when you Placed it and that particular image now has an Effective PPI of 152PPI.

Your image is Low resolution. 35PPI and reducing the image width and height to bring the PPI up to 155PPI.
The original is coming from "Layout" - can you export it at a larger resolution?
