Images look different when imported to InDesign

I am having a problem with the color in indesign. The images do not show up in their original colors once I import them into indesign.

What format is the graphic and what colour space (RGB or CMYK)? What is the Transparency Blend Space (Edit menu) for hte InDesign file?

Indesign only shows a lo-res proxy image of the original for placement purposes. 

Check the colour breakdown in the Separations Panel.

Window>Output>Separations

Check the colour breakdown.

Also check the colour breakdown when you export to PDF to ensure that no colour conversions are happening.
