Import Data from Excel to InDesign for Formatting

Hello!

I have an excel file with the details of a directory for printing in a magazine, business name, address, phone, website. I am looking for a way to import that data into InDesign and format it using paragraph styles. I have defined a paragraph style for each field, I want the web address, business name, phone number each formatted to a specific paragraph style.

I am familiar with a data merge, where you can assign each field a format, but I don't want to create separate files for each entry, I want the text to run continuously in one text field. I have also tried placing the excel file, but I can't find a wat to assign formatting.

Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

Import data as a table, format columns - then if you don't want a table look - convert table to text with Paragraph as a field separator.
