Any reason why the buttons are not consistently positioned? Screenshot 2025-04-03 at 15.48.25.pngScreenshot 2025-04-03 at 15.48.15.png

Left hand and right hand not communicating, unfortunately.

Hi @BethGoddard72,

Thanks for bringing this up! This likely comes down to UI design choices made separately by each team, even though both dialogs serve the same purpose. Currently, there isn’t a setting in InDesign Preferences to adjust the button order in dialogs, as this is part of the application's design.

If this inconsistency is impacting your workflow, I’d recommend submitting a feature request on UserVoice. The InDesign team reviews these requests, and upvotes from other users help prioritize improvements.

Let me know if you have any other questions!

That's the long version of what I said.

For unknown reasons, the positions of the Cancel and Don't Save buttons were reversed in InDesign 2025, prompting widespread outrage.

I don't know if you created a new one, but there's already an existing bug report with a large number of upvotes:

"Outrage"! I think I have other things to be outraged about (like my retirement fund disappearing)--InDesign's buttons shouldn't cause outrage. Mild aggravation, maybe...

Also, if you save your work first, you won't get the dialog box. That's one of the first things I do.

Anyway, use keyboard shotcuts--Return or S for Save, Escape or C for Cancel, and D for Don't Save (Mac)/N for No (Windows).
