Hello all!
I installed Indesign 16.0 and soon I discovered a bug with endnotes. When I wanted to convert one endnote to footnote that did happen but Indesign added extra Tabs in front of every remaining endnote in the chain and removed the Tab after the Endnote reference! Then I got one more Tab in front each time I converted an endnote to footnote. I discovered this after three occasions and I stopped using 16.0 immediately. Did we get a Beta-version for install?
Thanks for the screenshots.
Yes, I think I detected something similar. The conversion process is buggy as hell.
Let me see, I've done some bug reports at InDesign UserVoice in February. You may detect your issue in my reports; don't know the details anymore:

Hi Eyjolfur5FF7,
can you show some screenshots?
One before, one after the conversion.
All invisible characters showing, also all frame edges.
What's your exact operation system version?
Thank you,
Uwe Laubender

Hi Uwe
OS 10.15.7
This endnote problem is also in previous version of Indd, 15.0.x and 15.1.3.
Three screenshots, one before conversion, one after one conversion and then another one. Adds more Tabs for each conversion and removed the tak after the reference. Works ok for the endnote, it seems.

Read through my bug reports. The best way to convert endnotes to footnotes is to:
[1] Select all the endnote texts.
[2] Use the context menu for conversion if the endnote text is selected.

This has happened to me in the past and recently using ID 2025. If I did a Find and Change, extra tabs were added each time rather than deleting the extra tabs as I wanted. I copied all of my stories to a new document, then copied them back into the original document and that seemed to work. Hopefully not an issue going forward. I work on books with many endnotes and want to keep them "live". Maybe not an issue if the endnotes are static? Frustrating to say the least and another reason to avoid the yearly "upgrade".

If you get extra spaces - what is your F&C query?
What do you mean by "static Endnotes"?

There were extra tabs put into the endnotes - these tabs were not put in by me - but put into my document after I did a F&C query. My query was to find:
^p^t^t and change to ^p^t. That is when ID put in yet another set of tabs in my endnotes - these tabs were occuring before the endnote number.
Static endnotes are when the "live" endnotes are converted to static. I like to keep them live so that if the client decides to remove/add an endnote, then they will auto update. If static, then I would have to do that manually.

Those Tabs couldn't get from nowhere 😉 unless, they're still effect of the bug?
Yes, I know the difference between live and static - I was just wondering why would you need to make them static?

The extra tabs came after I put in the F&C query to take them out! And if I did the query again, more tabs were added. I just thought the problem may not happen if the endnotes were static.
I can't share the file as it is at present an unpublished book.
This problem has happened to me in the past with older versions of ID. So far my document is now "behaving". 🙂

I managed to use them live. I copied all of the text to a blank document and then copied all of the text back into the original file after I saved as .idml. So a bug somewhere but so so odd when I'm trying to take out tabs and ID puts in more tabs. Over 600 endnotes so quite a fuss to get it to work properly.
