InDesign 19.0 freezes after start on Sonoma 14.0

I am really fed up! I can't use InDesign 19.0 nor previous versions properly anymore since I updated to Sonoma 14.0 with an Apple Mac Book Pro 2021, M1 Chip. It wasn't aware that InDesign is not running properly on Sonoma 14.0! What options do I have? Do I need to downgrade? When is InDesing 19.1 coming?

I am working on a deadline. :'(

Weirdly enough. InDesign started to work again after a couple of days. I did use the adobe cleanup program to deinstal InDesign properly. It didn't seem to make a difference at first, and then suddenly it's better. I still experience a freeze from time to time, but at least I can work.

No clue why it works now. I am using the same files. Good luck!

Roll back to Ventura, turn off the rulers in InDesign, and/or if the option is available, turn on GPU Performance in your InDesign preferences. Also note that Sonoma14.1 was just released and we still do not know whether this is Adobe's bug or Apple's.

M1 MBP 14  2021 - OSX Sonoma 14.0

I’ve taken the plunge using Sonoma. Most importantly. I have an Intel MacBook Pro to fall back on in case of trouble.

PLEASE NOTE which may be a factor:

After updating to the latest version of Ventura (on 3 October 2023) I got the black screen of death.

Apple store genius used DFU mode to RESTORE which means they wiped my MacBook clean and installed OSX Sonoma.

I then installed NEW Adobe apps - I did NOT migrate the old apps from my backup.

InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, and Acrobat running OK with Sonoma so far.

Just worked on a complex 28-page newsletter using InDesign with no problems with layout or producing press-ready PDF.

Some minor screen flickering when laying out pages is the only issue I’ve experienced.

Thanks for your answers.

I don't have the possiblity to do a backup atm so no roll back to Ventura for now. The trick with the ruler didn't work for me.

I did deinstall and reinstall the the InDesign app. But nothing so far. It just freezes as soon as I start doing something, like scrolling in the document. I really hope there will be a fix soon.

Any estimation on how long we'll have to wait for an InDesign update? I know it's not clear on which side the bug is, but judging from past experiences or updates??

I'm in the EXACT same scenario! Is there an InDesign update in near future... preferably before 2024?!?!

Same here! Indesign started freezing while launching (not responding) or as soon as I started working on a file. It happened suddenly (no update whatsoever). I was on an early Sonoma version and Indesign 2023. I updated to Sonoma 14.4.1, I uninstalled Indesign, I reinstalled InDesign 2024, I also tried Indesign 2023, I cleaned everything and started from scratch again... no way Indesign would work!

Help please!!!

Try to create a clean new user account in System Settings and run InDesign there - will  it make a difference?
