indesign 20.3.1 crashes on macOS Sonoma 14.7.6

Participant ,
May 28, 2025 May 28, 2025

recently my indesign 2025 (20.3.1) crashes more than usual. I'm running macOS Sonoma 14.7.6 (23H626) on Apple M1 Max 32gb ram.
Is there any benefit in upgrading to macOS Sequoia?
Could the benefits be offset by issues with other Adobe applications?

thx

Have you reset your preferences lately?

Try resetting your preferences:

InDesign 19.3 and newer go to Preferences > General > and click on "Reset Preferences on Quit" and then quit and restart.

Or
Windows: Start InDesign, and then press Shift+Ctrl+Alt. Click Yes when asked if you want to delete preference files.
macOS: While pressing Shift+Option+Command+Control, start InDesign. Click Yes when asked if you want to delete preference files.
A dialog will appear asking to delete the InDesign Preferences, select 'Yes' on this dialog.

If you're constantly resetting your preferences and nothing is changing for you

Reinstalling rarely fixes everything - you can do a complete reinstall using the
Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/kb/cc-cleaner-tool-installation-problems.html

Hi @Milko con la elle,

Thanks for bringing this up, and I totally understand how frustrating frequent crashes can be when you're in the middle of your work.

Adding to what @Eugene Tyson suggested about resetting preferences, could you confirm if the crash happens only with a particular file or across all documents? Also, does it occur right at launch or while performing a specific action, like using a certain tool or applying an effect?

I also checked for any crash reports submitted using the email linked to your community profile but couldn't find any records. If the Adobe crash reporter dialog box appeared when the crash occurred, please submit the report and let me know the email address used (you can DM it to me on the community). This will help me pull up the logs and get it properly investigated. Here's more info on submitting reports:
https://helpx.adobe.com/indesign/kb/submit-crash-reports.html

In the meantime, I recommend going through the troubleshooting steps listed here as well:
https://helpx.adobe.com/indesign/kb/crash-on-launch.html

Let me know how it goes. Looking forward to your update!

Abhishek

I don't know why the crash report (that I see from the windows that appear) didn't reach its destination.
I have run the troubleshooting suggestion: finger crossed.

so I notice no one suggest me to update to sequoia...

this means Sonoma 14.7.6 is still ok for Adobe updated software. right ?

🙂

Hi @Milko con la elle,

Thanks for the update, and glad to hear you've gone through the troubleshooting steps.

Regarding your question about macOS Sequoia, we've done internal testing with Sequoia and found it to be compatible without any major issues so far. You can definitely try updating to Sequoia yourself and check if the crashes still occur.

Also, about the crash reports not getting through, sometimes they don't submit if there's no internet connection at the time or if the dialog is closed too quickly. If it happens again, feel free to DM me the email you used so I can check with the team manually.

Let me know how InDesign behaves after the reset and whether you go ahead with the OS update.

Looking forward to hearing back from you.

Abhishek
