InDesign 2022 (v17.4) Win10 Pro keeps randomly crashing

We use ID and IC (v17.4) to produce serveral print publications. We have 3 designers that use ID and several editors that use IC. The designers also use a 3rd party plugin to design, route copy, etc. All the designers experience intermittant crashing (some day more that others). ID will crash, they will have to reopen and recover and then continue working. Some days it causes issues getting things done on time.

I have looked through the windows logs to see if I could find anything but I do not see any Fatal Errors due to an Indesign crash. I have also looked throuh all the ID folders to see if there were any sort of logs but could not find any.

Is there any sort of "logging" that i can turn on that may provide some sort of clue as to why we experience crashes?

all the comptuers are windows 10 pro 22h2 with 32G's of RAM

Thanks in advance!

The first troubleshooting tip would be to disable that plugin. The second is moving everyone to InDesign/InCopy 2023.

I'll also take a pre-emptive attempt to tell you that if the plugin developer hasn't updated to 2023, yet, you might want to start exploring alternatives.

I would first start by saying that I am not entirely sure the plugin is the issue. That is why I was looking for some sort of ID logs that would indicate where the issue may be.

The vendor has not release a CC 2023 version yet. Still being tested i am told.

Again, the best way to find out is to disable it. Have you been submitting the crash reports to Adobe?

I did get a couple of crash reports. Both seem to contain:

<crash exception="EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION" exceptionCode="0xc0000005" instruction="0x000000018005C22D">

which seem to indicate an attempt to access memory allocated to another process. I attached both full crash reports. i was told ID crashed when dropping a photo into a document.

Does this provide any useful insight? I also opened a ticket with adobe but all they wanted to do was access the comptuer to do a screen share so they can see it crash. since the crashing is intermittant that is really not useful.

Sorry for the delay in response. Are you able to resolve the issue? If not, please share the Adobe Case Number with me over a private message so that I can check the status of the case with the team.

We will try our best to help you.

Thanks,
