InDesign 2024 v19.4 — can't save (greyed out) and undo function not working AGAIN

I know many people have posted about this before, but now I'm compelled to raise it. Again.

 

Having just updated to InDesign v19.4, running Sonoma 14.5 on my 2019 iMac, the issue where InDesign won't allow you to save a document or undo actions is back again, just like I've had on-and-off with the past several versions of InDesign.

 

It's clearly an unresolved bug —why does it keep happening, and why should I pay Adobe for this kind of experience?

 

Yes, I can salvage my work by exporting it as an IMDL, or force quit and see what's recovered when I reopen the application, but it's such a rubbish experience, so flaky and unstable, and these are the most basic functions anyone would want to utilise. What is the problem here, and when will Adobe finally sort it out?

Try resetting your preferences:

Windows: Start InDesign, and then press Shift+Ctrl+Alt. Click Yes when asked if you want to delete preference files.
macOS: While pressing Shift+Option+Command+Control, start InDesign. Click Yes when asked if you want to delete preference files.
A dialog will appear asking to delete the InDesign Preferences, select 'Yes' on this dialog.

Reinstalling rarely fixes everything - you can do a complete reinstall using the
Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/kb/cc-cleaner-tool-installation-problems.html

Many people run InDesign on the same as you - and very few reports of things like this.

I've experienced it myself. And export to IDML.
Then Quit InDesign and restart it and the problem is gone.

It could be an issue with the OS, it could be 3rd party app - like WebRoot causes me issues on my Mac. 

 

There's a lot going on - but if you submit the bug reports as in the link provided that's the only way the issues will get resolved.
