Since updating all of my Adobe products to the most recent, InDesign does not import JPG files adjusted in PS 27.0.0. A message comes up Error encountered while reading JPEG image. Image may be damaged or incompatible. Resave the image with different setting and try again. I resave, rename, make copies, and still not luck. Very frustrating.

Hi @Ginny5C7C,
Thanks for reporting this. I tested the workflow on my end by exporting a JPG from Photoshop and placing it in InDesign 21.0.2, and it worked fine for me. When you get a moment, please try updating both Photoshop and InDesign to the latest versions available, such as PS 27.1 and ID 21.0.2, and then check if the issue still appears. It would also help to know if this happens with every JPG you export from Photoshop or only with a particular file, so I can look deeper into it with the team.
Looking forward to your update.
Abhishek

My updates say they are up to date, but I'm only at 21.0 and 27.0. When I check creative cloud, it says I'm up to date as well. Maybe those updates will fix the glitch, but I can't update at this time. : /

Try to log out of Creative Cloud, then log back in.

When you updated InDesign did you keep the old InDesign preference file? Many times after an upgrade old preferences that were created for the older code of the previous version do not work correctly with the new version. Try resetting your InDesign preferences. This will restore the program to its defaults. Hopefully, this is all it will take to fix the problem that you're having.
To reset preferences:
For Macintosh Users: The User Library folder in which InDesign’s preferences are stored is hidden by default on most Macintoshes. To access it make sure that InDesign is closed and click on the desktop to launch a Finder Window (Command-N). With this window in column view follow the path User>Home folder (it’s the folder with an icon that looks like a house—it may have the user’s name rather than “Home”) and click on the Home folder. With the Option Key pressed choose Library from the Finder Go Menu. “Library” will now appear within the Home folder. Within the Library folder find the folder called Preferences and within it find the folder called “Adobe InDesign” and the file called “com.adobe.InDesign.plist” and delete both that folder and that file. When InDesign is next launched it will create new preference files and the program will be restored to its defaults.
For Windows Users: You can try the quick way of resetting on a PC which is to hold down Ctrl + Alt + Shift when launching InDesign and respond affirmatively when asked if you want to reset. There have been some recent reports that the window asking if you want to reset is not popping up but that the prefs are being reset anyway. If this works great but if it doesn’t you may have to manually delete them.
To do so:
On Windows 7 and above the preference files are hidden. To find them go to the Control Panel and open Folder Options and then click the View tab. Then select “Show hidden files and folders” or “Show hidden files, folders or drive options” in Advanced Settings. Then delete (or rename) the folder at the end of this path: C:\Users\<USER>\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\InDesign\<Version #>\<Language>. Make sure that InDesign is closed when you do this. When you relaunch the program it will create new preference files and the program will be at its default settings.
The advantage of manually deleting preference files is that after you’ve reset up the program (make sure that no document window is open) to your liking, you can create copies of your personalized “mint” preference files (make sure that you quit the program before copying them—that finalizes your customization) and use them in the future to replace any corrupt versions you may need to delete.

Hi @Ginny5C7C,
I just wanted to check back in with you. Were you able to try the suggestions shared by the experts, like logging out and back into Creative Cloud or resetting the InDesign preferences? Please let me know if the issue is now resolved or if you're still running into the same error when placing JPGs, so we can take the next steps accordingly.
Looking forward to your update.

Abhishek:
I could not delete my preferences, but I was able to update to 21.0.1 yesterday (it wasn’t available when this started). The issue seems to be resolved.
I did run into a new situation, when copying and pasting from Excel to InDesign, it causes ID to shut down. Works fine for Word, and the copy was very simple, no formulas, five columns and just 10 lines long. ID 21 seems to be a very buggy release.

Hi @Ginny5C7C,
Thank you for the update. I'm pleased to learn that the JPG import problem has been fixed after upgrading to 21.0.1. Concerning the new issue where InDesign crashes when pasting from Excel, could you please verify your operating system version, and if this occurs with all Excel files or just certain ones? It would also be useful to know if the crash happens every time you paste from Excel or only following specific actions, and whether pasting as unformatted text alters the outcome. Additionally, please confirm if you observe the Adobe crash reporter during the entire process.
If possible, could you provide a brief screen recording demonstrating the precise steps from copying in Excel to the crash in InDesign? This would help me in reviewing the issue.
I look forward to your response.
Abhishek
