InDesign Book Feature Facing Pages Export to PDF(Print) Problem

Good Afternoon. We are having an issue when exporting a Book Feature document to PDF(Print). All of the individual documents are compiled into the Book Feature and all have the Facing Pages feature set, so that ALL pages, except the very first and very last, are on a two-page spread. However, when we export to PDF(Print), there are many single pages that appear in the exported PDF, specifically between the documents that are supposed to be compiled together into the book. What setting needs to be fixed so that all the pages come out as facing pages in the exported document?

Can you confirm that the single pages are at the end of each InDesign file that you comnpiled in a InDesign Book? or their locations are completely random?

The book feature works like a book

 

If you have

File 1

6|7

 

File 2

Etc

 

File 1 needs to end so it's doing

8|

 

So it completes

To get around this in the Book Panel check the book page numbering options in the book Panel sub menu

Thank you for that! Yes, we tried exactly that. It seems to be a page arrangement setting rather than a left/right issue as that did not solve the problem.Your layout example is exactly what we are working with. When it exports, it ends up like:BOOK

Hi Rosanna,

as far as I can tell this is "normal" behavior.

To work around this

 

[1] Export to PDF as you do now with all pages of the book.

Use PDF/X-4 for that where transparency stays intact.

 

[2] Create a new document, page size is the same like the page sizes of your InDesign book documents, but there should be one difference if you export with bleed around your pages:

Setup this new document as a non-facing pages document with just one page.

 

[3] Place all PDF pages of step [1] by using the script MultiPageImporter so that all pages are placed automatically.

MultiPageImporter will add pages to your document if necessary. As you can see from this screenshot below you have various options like "Center" on a page etc.pp.:

[4] Finally export from that new InDesign document.

Thank you for the suggestion! This looks like a hack that while possible, would not be scalable for the higher volume we need to be able to produce. We are designing with a bleed, so that is certainly a consideration!

Note: Maybe I misunderstood, but I thought the result should be a PDF with one single page in "spread 1", followed by two pages in all other "spreads" until the last "spread" where only one page should be visible. As viewed in Adobe Reader or other PDF readers that support a Two-Up (Cover Page) view of single pages.
