Hi all

I solved the problem by joining the second document to the first. I knew this was the solution but I wanted to insist...

thx

Text Variables > Define > Load... is the only way I know of.

I'm not sure, but if the Text Variable was contained within a textframe that you then used Edit > Place and Link, it might update. You would have to test me on that idea to see whether it works.

hi Mike, thx for reply

I'm sure I didnt explain correctly cause of my poor english.

I've a book (tec manual) splitted in some indd doc.

within the <footer> variable there is text from section paragraph style.
I expect the indd book manage inheritance from doc to doc...

No because InDesign doesn't have Header/Footers as per a Word document might have.

You set these manually.

So you would insert the footer variable in each master page for each document in the book.

Sure, I put the variables in the master page of every document. But I want Indesign to update the content of the variable ...

Indesign should take from the previous document the value of the variable present in the master page of the next document. should do this thanks to the book function.
