Print goes though but crashes every time on multiple files
While we continue to work with EFI to permanently resolve this issue, we have made a workaround available through the following article:
InDesign CC 2014 | Crash while printing to Fiery RIP | Mac OS

My experience is the same as Dave Bezesky. If I just print in the normal adobe print dialogue box it is fine. IF I hit the printer button to pop printer settings for things like double sided then after I hit the final print button it will send the print and then crash. Happens every time without fail. This same exact behavior is happening on adobe Indesign, as well as, Illustrator CC 2014. Running Mavericks 10.9.3. It doesn't matter what printer I am using the behavior is the same.

Same problem here on OS 10.9.3. My co-workers are not having this problem and we're all on the same OS. Printing to Xerox WorkCentre 7700. Ran disk utility to repair permissions, but it didn't help.

If Fiery features are used: Is this crash reproduced if the "two-way communication" printer option is switched OFF?

I've seen this - have used the Fiery tool to fully uninstall and reinstall the printer and the crash happens with two way communication set to off also. I have the contents of the crash report window as a text file if you're interested?

I have just uninstalled ID (2014) from my computer. Can anyone tell me if the prior version is still available or not? The reason I ask, I'm working on new editions to some books and need my wife to help me with layouts and artwork. Her Macbook Pro has an old version that we own. I was thinking of doing a clean install on her computer of OS 10.9.3 and getting her up to date with Adobe applications. But if only the 2014 versions are available, I will stick with what we have. Xeroidsteve, every time I crash, I send my crash report to Adobe. I sometimes wonder if it is just going out into the ether though.

All you have to do is you go to your CC app the one when you can update your apps or download others from the suite. You will see a drop down menu by find new apps that will probably say All apps, if you click that you can choose previous versions and then click on indesign and select CC. Had to figure that one out a few days ago, Cheers

Just to add another one to the list. I'm also having this problem with CC 2014 when trying to print to a printer with a Fiery RIP. It was the first thing I ran into. I just uninstalled it so I could go back to using CC 2013.

Thank you all for providing as much information as you could.
We're currently looking into what is an apparent issue with how InDesign CC 2014 and the Fiery RIP are interacting.
One possible workaround might be to try the approach within this thread and see if it helps you workaround the issue:

Is it only a Fiery issue? I thought it was pretty much any printer.

At this time the primary recurring theme is the Fiery RIP installation and likely the implementation of the Fiery Features item under that Printer button. Fiery can be installed with a variety of printer manufacturers as you can see here:
http://w3.efi.com/fiery-wide-format/product-overview/supported-printers
Other issues for printing, we haven't seen much that we can reproduce or can target yet. In which case we'd be recommending troubleshooting by refreshing preferences, maybe removing printers and drivers, trying to print to postscript using different PPDs, or other items of that nature to see if we can find the common element to the failure.

I am having the same issue with a fiery-a1 attached to a canon 9075. But seems to only crash if I click on the printer button in the print dialog box.

I am having the same problem on Windows 8.1 when printing to a Canon C9065 with a Fiery RIP. Only started after updating to CC2014. Only happens when I need to click "preferences" to set additional options in the printer.
Happens EVERY time I need to do this.

Does anyone know if there is a plugin for Windows 8? I'm having the same issue described above with InDesign CC 2014.

I am deploying Mavericks and CC 2014 to 330+ Mac clients. Have the same problems printing as Broke and Dave. If I just print in the normal adobe print dialogue box it is fine. If I hit the printer button to pop printer settings for things like double sided then after I hit the final print button it will send the print and then crash. Happens every time also if I don't make any change or selection to the print dialog.
It doesn't matter what printer I am using the behavior is the same.
Illustrator, Photoshop, Acrobat work perfectly.

I am working for EFI/Fiery and we are actively looking into this issue. Crash is generic and reproducible on Product Driver’s released for 10.9 support on Adobe In Design CC 2014 .
In the meantime, please report the problem to your vendor - Canon, KM, Ricoh, Xerox... so that it is officially reported.
Thanks,

Thank you Laurent for letting us know EFI/Fiery is on the issue.
I also have reported it to Xerox and they said it is up to EFI/Fiery to resolve the issue and there is nothing they can do ... I expected that answer.
Thanks again ... would it be possible for you to keep us updated?

I don't know who you talked to, but Xerox Support has to accept your escalation, since this is a Xerox branded product, and since it is part of the service level agreement.
However it seems that one of the last update to CC 2014 broke the Fiery driver, so we need Adobe to get back to us on this.
I'll keep you posted on our findings.
thanks,

I've talked to level 2 techs who've said the same thing when it comes to issues with the Fiery driver. They say it's up to EVI/Fiery to fix it and they can't do anything on their end. All they can do is suggest alternatives until EFI/Fiery resolves the issue. It's a very common response when dealing with Xerox.

I admin a number of Macs and discovered today that we have this problem as well. InDesign 2014 printing via EFI RIP to a Canon ImagePress C1+.
One workaround is, as mentioned above, exporting to a PDF and printing form there.
The InDesign document causing the problem had a mix of RGB and CMYK images linked. When I converted all the RGB images to CMYK the problem went away. I will treyagain next week to see if this is the general cause of the problem, i.e. mixing RGB and CMYK.

I run a Marketing shop of Designers using Mavericks + CC 2014 and have the same printing crash/issue as mentioned above; printing using the fiery printer settings (duplex, folding, etc.) and InDesign and Illustrator crash as soon as the job stops spooling. One-way or two-way communication or saving before or after doesn't matter or stop the crash. I can provide crash logs if needed.
Please rush a fix for this as it is really annoying my professionals and I really don't want to roll-back.
Thanks in advance.

Thanks to everyone who has been able to provide all of the additional Information and troubleshooting, since I have not had the time to do so. Since the issue has obviously occurred after the InDesign CC2014 update, I would hope that Adobe would resolve in a timely fashion since a ton of designers like myself use the Fiery RIP. Looking forward to an update where the issue is resolved! For now I will have to live with the crashes and/revert to the previous version of InDesign CC
