Anytime I try to open indesign, it gets to the loading screen then immediately closes. I have tried restarting my laptop, resetting my entire laptop, uninstalling indesign, removing preferences, using creative cloud cleaner tool, and more. When I open the app after uninstalling or removing preferences it works and opens and I can use it, however the next time I try to use it, it doesn't work again. When I can use it, everything seems to work well, it's only when trying to open it again that it fails. I also have indesign downloaded on my home computer (on the same account) and it works absolutely fine on there.

Then it looks like there is something wrong with your laptop ?
What Brand / Model ?
What platform ? If it's Windows - I would suspect problem with Hibernation / Sleep settings - not sure if it's a problem on a Mac.
Or maybe you don't have enough privileges - not Admin account - but again, it's for Windows - no idea about Mac.
If it's Windows - what version?
And what version of InDesign?

It's the MacBook Air M2 2022.
It's an account connected to my uni email as it was bought through the uni with a student discount.
I have had InDesign installed since February and it has been working fine all up until today when it just randomly stopped working.
I also have the most recent update of InDesign

Latest is 18.5 which has been released a few days ago. Is it this version?

My laptop was previously (a few hours ago) saying there were no updates available (system or InDesign) but since then it has loaded new system updates (which I have just now installed), and now new InDesign updates (I previously had 18.4 but had no pending updates), which I am downloading now so I will update if that works. Thank you 🙂

Update: It seems to be working now! Hopefully this was all it took. I feel a bit silly for clearing and restarting my whole laptop now, but for some reason updates weren't showing!

Hi, I've just tried dropping down to 18.4 and i'm still experiencing the same issue. Does anyone know how to actually get in touch with Adobe? I've used InDesign for years and have never experienced this problem. All other Apps seem to be unaffected.

Did you try this way? Quit InDesign and relaunch it while holding down the Shift, Ctrl, Alt and Cmd keys until you see a warning message asking for confirmation.

Do you have Administrator privileges on your account - or write rights to InDesign's "profile" - you use to login to your laptop?

I'm not quite sure but I don't think so as it the account is connected to my university account.

Hello. I am running ID in a 2020 iMac Intel AND and a 2022 M1 Mac; both running Ventura 13.5 and plenty of RAM. This "launch and crash" problem only occurs with ID running on the Intel Mac: Immediately after I updated to ID 18.5 (08/02/23) the app ceases to work. It crashes 100% of the time even after a clean reinstallation... Correction: After reinstallation, the app will run ONCE but not after a quit and re-launch. I've uninstalled and reinstalled twice but the behavior is the same. At this point, ID is effectively disabled on my Intel Mac. Following the top lines of the crash thread:

Hi, I don't suppose anyone has a definitive answer to this problem yet? I'm still having to unistall and Install every single day! Come on Adobe, this has to be fixed.

Are you on Mac on Windows?
If Mac - for most users the solution is to update OS.

Hi Robert, I wasn't aware I needed an update, as I'm sure I have it set to automatic updates. It turns out I do, and so I'll definitatley give this a try now. Thank you.

Hi @si-boneGFX,
I'm really sorry to hear about the issues you're facing with InDesign on your Intel Mac-it sounds incredibly frustrating. Thank you for providing the details; they’re really helpful.
To assist you further, could you please try the following steps:
1. Submit a Crash Report: If you haven't done so already, please submit a crash report as outlined in this (https://adobe.ly/3AZY0TO). Use the same email address that you're using in this community so we can easily locate the report.
2. Safe Mode & Root Account: Try running InDesign in Safe Mode or using a Root account on your Mac to see if the issue persists.
3. Manually Reset Preferences:
- Close all Adobe applications.
- Navigate to `~/Library/Caches` and `~/Library/Preferences`.
- Rename the folders "Adobe InDesign and "com.adobe.InDesign" to "Adobe InDesign.old" and "com.adobe.InDesign.old".
- Then, launch InDesign from the Creative Cloud ap"p.
4. Rename the CEP and UXP Folders:
- Navigate to '/Library/Application Support/Adobe' and rename the "CEP" folder to "CEP.old".
- If the problem continues, also rename the "UXP" folder to "UXP.old" in the same location.
