If InDesign crashes on reopeing, then the recovery data is corrupt and you will need to empty the HIDDEN InDesign Recovery folder in your user profile. If more than one file was open when ID crashed originally, I suggest moving, rather than deleting the contents so you can try reloading them one file at a time in hopes that some may be recoverable.

To recover any damaged files you can try the Blind open and IDML-export script, or you can send the files to Adobe at idfile@adobe.com after trying the steps at  https://helpx.adobe.com/indesign/kb/troubleshoot-file-issues.html

Hi there,

Sorry about the crashing! I know that's really frustrating. I would request you to share a few more details like:

    • Please confirm the exact version of InDesign and Operating System
    • Is the issue related to a specific document? If yes, could you please share the document with us? You can upload it to the Creative Cloud (https://helpx.adobe.com/in/creative-cloud/help/share.html) and share the download link.
    • Where are the file and links saved (Network Drive/ System HDD/ Shared Folder on System/ External HDD)?
    • Submit the crash report by following the steps suggested here (https://helpx.adobe.com/in/indesign/kb/submit-crash-reports.html).
While submitting the crash report, please use the same email address with which you are signed in on this community. This will help us find the crash report and help accordingly.

We will be looking forward to your response.

Thanks & Regards,

Anshul Saini
