Hi,
Just today InDesign crashed every time I select a table or portion of table and then do 'Edit, Copy'. I've tried saving as .idml, trashing preference, different tables, different indesign files. All to no avail.
Any thoughts?
InDesign CC 13.1 x64 on Windows 10
I got around to uninstalling and reinstalling InDesign today and everything is ok now. I can select part or all of a table and copy and it doesn't crash.

Hi BigEnd ,
are there any graphic cells in the table where you managed to have any text frames inside?
That would be a recipe for a definite crash if the table or a part of the table is copy/pasted.
If your InDesign already crashes on the copy command it would be something else.
Maybe a corrupt font.

Uwe

No graphic cells. Yes it crashes on the copy command but only with table cells selected.

Will it crash, if just the text is selected and not the cell?

No problem with selecting just the text in a cell and copying. Selecting just one cell and copy will cause a crash.

Hi Martin,
you already tried IDML…
Sorry, I'm out of clues for now.
Oh. Perhaps this: Will it work if you duplicate the table?
To do that duplicate the text frame the table is sitting in by selecting the frame, holding the Alt key and dragging.
If that will work you could perhaps delete unnecessary rows and columns.
Can you make the document available for download through a service like Dropbox?
Maybe I'll find a reason…
Regards,
Uwe

Thanks for your suggestions Uwe. The tables are inline with text so duplicating them with that method wouldn't work.
I have an identical copy of InDesign on another laptop and it doesn't have the problem. So it would seem to be machine specific. Something corrupt somewhere. When I have time I will attempt an uninstall and a reinstall.
Regards
Martin.

Hi Martin,
but duplicating with a different method would work:
Select the special character that is the actual table and alt-drag it to a new text frame's first insertion point.
To do that invoke the Story Editor Window with Ctrl + Y when the cursor is in the text, select the character that actually is the table and alt-drag it away.
Usually the table is open in the Story Editor, close it so that you can see the table symbol only, select the insertion point behind the symbol and now select the symbol. You should be able to alt-drag it out of the story window.
Here a screenshot from a story with mixed text and table.
I closed the table in the Story Editor Window and selected the table symbol.
Right of the story's text frame is a new text frame where I alt-dragged the table symbol to the first (and only) insertion point:

Uwe

Hello @tysonbrazy,
Could you share more details, like the version of the OS/InDesign installed, and this happens when working with specific files or files from a particular folder location, so I can better assist you?
Also, try running InDesign under Safe Mode (Windows / macOS) and share your observations.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
