Hi, we recently aquired Indesign files that were originally set up on a CMS system. We cannot get access to enter text into the text boxes, etc, as it still seems to be linked to it's original set up. Can anyone make any suggestions as to how we can remedy this?

Thanks,

David

Maybe the text box or the layer on which its present is locked. See the following article on how to check this and change it, if you already don't know about it

What CMS do you use it? What say support of this CMS about? I think only them can help you fast than forum-users.

Suggestions:

- text box isn't text box, this is indd placed to indd

- text box is done as text frame (file) for editing inside incopy, you are need to "check in" this text-frame

- something lock this frame (it on master-page, it on locked layer, etc)

Remember, never say you can't do something in InDesign, it's always just a question of finding the right workaround to get the job done. © David Blatner

I think you are right. We have contacted the company who originally set up the CMS so hopefully they can help but I think I will probably have to re-create the boxes.

Thanksyou

Check in the dropdown menu of the links panel if there is not a “break link” command or similar.

Hi David,

would it work if you export the documents to IDML, InDesign's own exchange format, open the IDML files as InDesign documents and save with new names? Just an idea…

I wonder if they're InCopy stories. Open the Assignments panel and check there.
