Hi,
We are typesetting in Adobe InDesign 2021 on MAC OS. In a particular Math book, each chapter contains around 3300 images. All the links are available in our shared server. After importing all those images in application file, then InDesign gets very slow. If any actions done in InDesign such as updating modified image, relinking image, text frame movement, moving to next page etc., it takes 5 to 10 seconds slower. We are struggling for paginating this file.
While composition we are keeping InDesign file in local path, disabled Preflight option and changed Display preformance to fast. Could you please suggest a solution for this slow performance issue.
File details:
System Details: Mac OS 10.14.6
Memory: 16 GB
Application: InDesign 2021

Hi,
I'd try (always in a copy of the work and links, please) to convert all the eps into lineart bitmaps (photoshop bitmaps, no screen, 50% threshold, 800 ppp (yes, this is not a typo) at 100% final size ). You can do that with a batch action i n Photoshop pretty easily. Then you can relink those images ("same name, different extension")
The purpose of this is trying to reduce the load of vectors. 800 ppp solid ink bitmaps (no screen), should print all right (always "effective pixels").
It might help and it does not take too much time or effort to try it.
Best regards
Gustavo

I definitely agree it's the load of EPS images - too many vectors.
And it probably is best to keep the images that are EPS as hi-res bitmaps.
So that workflow would be favourable in my opinion.
However,
You could batch convert all the EPS files to low res images.
As long as they are the same name - you can relink to a different extension
https://creativepro.com/relink-from-one-image-file-type-to-another/
So if you have a folder of images containing the low res.
And then when you need to export to hi-res - you can relink to the EPS files.
OR
Break the link to the links folder by renaming it - so all images are 'missing'.
Then rename the folder when exporting.
But both of my ideas have problems are a lot of file relinking could take time.
On that basis - I can't really see any other option except for replacing the EPS images for hi-res bitmap versions.
