InDesign goes black

My InDesign will periodically have black sections that show up for no reason. If i drag the screen around these sections change. I'm on a macbook pro I bought last April (2017). Does anyone know how to fix this?

The red boxes are just over private information. Not part of the problem.

Turn off GPU Performance (rocket ship icon)

turning off GPU acceleration ( that's the rocket symbol ) should help.
