I am having a problem with ID 2022 and ID 2023 hanging on a simple 23 page doc. that has only type. When I apply styles I sometimes have to click three or more times and then it beach balls for 10 seconds. I have done entire books with extensive imagery without this slowdown. So far I have:

  • Tried in both 2022 and 2023 same result
  • Switched fonts
  • Moved file out of iCloud (file is local)
  • Trashed preferences
  • Rebooted computer

It appears to be file related but I would appreciate suggestions on how to correct the problem. (BTW InDesign user since version 1 when I migrated from PageMaker)

Mac Studio Ultra 64 GB ram.

Fonts:

Clarendon

Adobe Garamond Pro

Source Sans

Thanks

Are you able to save the document out as an IDML and reopen that?

If that doesn't help, I'm suspecting there may be a corruption with a placed image/graphic. Without having to open every image and resaving them, you could try the "halving the file approach" to narrow it down to which page. i.e. save two files where you've deleted the first half of the book in one and the last half in the other. If one of these files works and the other crashes, you can start narrowing down where the issue is.

Thanks Brad,

The problem did seem to take care of itself after I tidied up my styles. I had already removed the one background image to eliminate that potiential. It is back in and no problems. It may have been cutting in pasting from various sources that brought in some bad juju. I am just going to leave it as mystery that the universe solved for me and move on. I appreciate your reply.

I did do the IDML save and reopen. Thanks for the tip. I will remember that in the future.
