Do you have the most up to date version of InDesign installed—CC 2021 (16.1)? If you are trying to use an older version of InDesign (maybe even one that was 32 bit) then that could explain having problems on Big Sur.

EDIT: There have been problems reported using M1 Macs largely due to the fact that CC progarms do not run natively on the new chip but rather run via Rosetta. For more information see: https://www.reddit.com/r/mac/comments/jzlmv2/warning_to_those_looking_to_use_adobe_cc_on_m1/.

Well - aswell as InDesign not being optimised for the M1 chip - the M1 chip emulates the x86 architecture through Rosetta - it should still work ok.

But - really moving to the new Mac with the M1 chip when the software isn't supported yet is a bit of a putting the cart before the horse situation.

You can try resetting your preferences - https://helpx.adobe.com/ie/indesign/kb/indesign-preferences-support-file-locations.html#:~:text=%5D%...

Or - Creative Cloud Cleaner tool

It could be the way to resolve it - and nothing to do with M1 chip or anything like that.
