Has anyone else experienced this? Getting a bit fed up now of having to keep closing 2020 and reopen in 2021... a fix would be good! Thanks!
I just found this solutin on another forum and it fixed the issue completely!

cela est arrivé à quelqu'un ?
Comment avez-vous corrigé le bug ?

Documents créés avec quelle version ? Et avec quelle version essaies-tu de les ouvrir ?

That is strange: by default, the file should open with the last version (2021). But if 2020 and 2021 are both launched, a file created with 2020 will still open in 2020 (same behaviour if 2020 is launched but not 2021)

Hiya, my files are created in 2020, I double click to open them, (with 2021 open) and they open in 2020. When I right click to go 'open with' 2021 doesn't appear 😞 any thoughts? thanks! Bryy

Hi together,
I discovered something similar. I am working on Windows 10.
See this very often when new versions arrive and get used to it. Made it a habit never to double-click a file in the File Explorer to open it with an application. I have various versions of InDesign installed. Also one for InDesign Prerelease.

I have the exact same problem and currently open the InDesign 2021 app first and then open and old file from there. But this is a rather annoying process. Surely there is a fix? Illustrator 2021 opens fine when double clicking from the file window.

Hi Hanahands,
thanks for the hint! A fix for our OP, bryonw, when on Windows 10.
FWIW: But this is only a fix of the problem if you want to open every *.indd file with the same version of InDesign.
If you want to open CC 2018 documents in InDesign CC 2018, 2019 documents in InDesign 2019 and so on, I see no immediate solution.
Thanks,
Uwe Laubender
