Hi community,
We are a design agency specialized in magazines. We have 4 Intel Macbook Pro's running InDesign 17.4
We have one Macbook Pro M1 running InDesign 17.4
An entire magazine was made using only the intel Macs. On the final day of production, the files were opened and saved on the M1 Mac. After this point, we could not open the files on the intel Macs anymore. InDesign crashes immediately. When trying to open the files on M1, it crashes as well.
We experienced this bug last year as well, after the same routing.
Some additional info:
The InDesign documents are quite large (the magazine has around 64 pages devided in 3 seperate InDesign documents) ; 20 pages with images and text, some advertisement, all sorts of things.
We solve this by getting the most recent back up file from Time Machine. But it's annoying as heck, does anyone else experience this?
Another thing that worked:
On our Macs, we also run an older version of InDesign (15.1.1), one with the Woodwing plugin. We only use this for version for a client that uses Woodwing/Smart Connection. We we able to open the corrupted files in this version, then saving as IDML, then opening in the 17.4 version of InDesign and save again.

Yes, it sounds like at some point the file got corrupted. Saving as IDML is a standard method of dealing with some kinds of corruption.
