InDesign not able to save any files because all are "damaged"

I'm using MacOS Monterey 12.7.5 and newest version of InDesign (checked for updates), restarted everything multiple times, and still - whenever I save a file in InDesign, I get the message "InDesign is unable to save this file. We tried, but it appears to be damaged." This happens even with brand new files, I've created a few new ones to test it and dropped in a square or a photo or a line of text, and I get the error message every time.

Someone said that having the "selection" tool versus the direction selection tool clicked would let it save, but that worked once and doesn't any more. Any one know what I can do?! I've updated things and restarted as much as I can and I'm at my wits end, and afraid I won't be able to finish this client file.

Is the newest version of InDesign compatible with Monterey?

Try resetting your preferences:

Windows: Start InDesign, and then press Shift+Ctrl+Alt. Click Yes when asked if you want to delete preference files.
macOS: While pressing Shift+Option+Command+Control, start InDesign. Click Yes when asked if you want to delete preference files.
A dialog will appear asking to delete the InDesign Preferences, select 'Yes' on this dialog.

Check your access / write rights to the folder(s) - including InDesign's installation folder(s).
